Today is Super Bowl Sunday and with that, comes the Super Bowl Halftime Show. The Halftime Show is more than just an entertainment break during one of the biggest sporting events. It's a "lights on" global stage where advertising, music, and culture all cross paths. For the companies that have their advertising productions and PR campaigns air, it can be a critical part of their awareness and sales. For the artists who perform, it can be a defining moment in their careers, possibly catapulting them into even greater levels of fame and appreciation. Beyond all of the glitz and glam, the Halftime show truly is such a unique place. Constantly evolving, trending, and reaching larger audiences.
The Super Bowl Halftime Show began in the 1960s with local performers and marching bands. Then in the 1980s, it evolved into featuring rock and pop acts. In the 2000s we saw the rise of more major stars like Michael Jackson, and in 2004 a controversial performance from Janet Jackson. Come 2010s we saw the show turn into a true spectacle filled with high-profile collabs and a more global and cultural appeal. Today, it combines advanced technology, social messages, and diverse musical performances making it a truly global entertainment.
Over time, the Super Bowl has evolved into one of the major marketing and PR platforms. Having brands use the platform to create an abundant buzz and engage wide-scale audiences. It wasn't until the 1990s and 2000s that advertisers started leveraging the massive viewership of the Super Bowl. Given his recent achievements, it's no shock that the NFL would look to Kendrick as one of the performers for this year's Super Bowl Halftime Show.
